The best extended warranty for BMW cars

BMW provides its own extended car warranties to the customers. But third-party extended warranties are actually much better. Some companies offer good extended warranties for different cars. In this article, we will provide you with a brief account of the three companies that offer you the best extended warranty for BMW cars.

For the sake of comparison, a detailed account of what BMW offers in its extended warranties will be out-lined, to help you judge for yourself the best extended car warranty provider.

BMW first time warranty for a new car

The BMW warranty for a new car, provides you with coverage for four years, or 50,000 miles of distance covered. After the warranty has expired, there will be no extra coverage for the powertrain section. Other auto companies like Cadillac and Genesis do provide extra years/miles of coverage, specifically for the powertrain section of their cars.

The road side support lasts for four years, and there are no mileage limits. For corrosion problems the warranty is valid for a 12-year period.

For a BMW certified pre-owned (CPO) car, the warranty will cover the remaining years or miles, and an additional year of coverage with no mile limits.

BMW extended warranty

BMW also offers extended warranties. There are three plans. Before you decide to buy the best extended warranty for BMW cars, you must check the plans, to see which one is the most suitable for you.

BMW extended warranties have 3 levels: Powertrain Platinum Level, Gold Level and Plus Level.

The Platinum Level

This plan offers coverage for the transmission, engine, cooling and fuel systems, steering and the anti-locking brakes parts. The electrical systems including the navigation and audio systems, get limited protection. Additionally, there is a limited protection for interior and exterior parts of the car.

The powertrain plus level

Only major parts of the transmission and the engine are protected, while the overall transmission and engine are partially protected. The cooling and fuel systems and the drive-axle are partially protected.

The gold level

As far as the gold level is concerned, the electrical systems get limited protection while the navigation and audio systems get no protection.

You can choose any one of these levels and get an extension on the original warranty for up to three years. The coverage may include 75,000 miles to 100,000 of for any extended period. That is, a coverage of 1 year / 100,000 miles or 3 years / 75,000 miles. Do remember, if the time period is up, or the number of miles is up, the warranty expires. For example, if you have covered a distance of 75,000 miles, in less than a year, and the warranty was for one year, then the warranty expires.

Limited service facilities in the country

BMW has 340 authorized dealing outlets, and the coverage does not provide any trip disturbance reimbursements. That means, if the car breaks down, and a BMW dealer is away from you, or the repair facility is far from your home, you must take your car to the facility, and then pick it up after repairs. Transportation expenses are not covered.

Some comparisons for starters

The third-party extended warranty companies have over 30,000 car repairing facilities across the country. Their warranties can include roadside assistance and trip disturbance reimbursements. These companies can provide more year / mile coverage options. And you do not have to buy an extended warranty before the original warranty expires.

Comparing BMW warranty with the three best extended warranty companies

Check out the comparison of a BMW warranty against an Endurance warranty, a CARCHEX warranty and a CarShield warranty.

BMW compared with Endurance

You can buy a BMW extended warranty after the original warranty has expired, but an Endurance warranty can be taken anytime. The maximum level of coverage offered by BMW is for 7 years/100,000miles, whereas Endurance offers a 15 years/200,000 miles coverage. Unlike BMW’s three warranty coverage plans, Endurance offers 6 plans. BMW has a $50 deductible term, but Endurance and the other two companies do not have any deductible terms.

Moreover, BMW gives no reimbursements for trip disturbances but Endurance does, and so do the other two companies.

Only BMW dealers are authorized to service/repair the car but according to Endurance policies, any service/repair facility that is certified by the National Institution for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can repair the car. An Endurance, CARCHEX or CarShield extended warranty can be cancelled within 30 days of purchase. It’s not the case with a BMW extended warranty. BMW quotes are only available from local dealers, but Endurance quotes can be obtained from anywhere, as is the case with the other two companies.

BMW against CARCHEX

CARCHEX offers the maximum coverage period – i.e. a 10 year/250,000 mile period. The company offers 5 plans, two more than BMW. The company has over 30,000 repair/service facilities.

BMW VS CarShield

CarShield offers coverage for a 250,000 mile limit. It offers 6 plans. Any ASE certified facility can service/repair the car.

The common ground among them

All four companies offer transferable extended warranties and roadside assistance.

Conclusion

CarShield offers more coverage for miles then Endurance. CARCHEX has more dealers. The company that offers the best extended warranty for BMW owners depends on what the owners want in coverage. But these three companies seem better than BMW.
